    Cheese Rolls

This one recipe in particular isn’t really a recipe LOL , and only for those of you who are comfortable enough with baking bread without measuring . Because this one doesn’t have any exact measurement . You won’t end up with too dry of bread if you already understand about ” smooth and elastic ” , or ” tacky ” dough . I’m going to share it with you guys anyway . I made this by accident few weeks ago , my son was asking for snacks , it was past dinner time , and i just fed my sourdough starter that afternoon . Heck i was already making enough…

    French Dip

Well the family asked for french dip for tonight’s dinner . I sort of figured that’s what they were going to ask anyway . French dip is pretty easy to do . I don’t make the beef myself obviously because really , actually there is nothing wrong buying roast beef at the deli counter . I am not ashamed of it . I am not a snob LOL .. So , there is no particular recipe to make this french dip , all you have to do is just to get roast beef from deli department at your grocery store . I bought Boar’s Head London Broil Roast Beef ,…

    Sourdough Hokkaido Milk Bread

I love Japanese milk bread , or as known Hokkaido milk bread . I have the original Hokkaido milk bread posted a long time ago and it’s always been my go to recipe . I made it so many times over the years because it’s my family’s favorite . It is soft and fluffy and so easy to make , that one recipe though was using commercial yeast . Not that anything wrong with it . I still make them quite often . This one recipe is using sourdough starter as the natural yeast , i don’t add any commercial yeast . Make sure before using this the starter you…

    Marble Cake

This was one of cake my mom loved to bake when i was growing up . I remember she used to let me lick the leftover chocolate batter from the whisk . I think everyone had this experience when we were younger . I even let my child did the same thing when he was little too . The cake is moist , and it was always fun doing the swirl thing to create the marble effect . Ingredients here are nothing special , pretty much everything you have on hand , especially if you love baking . The ingredients listed self rising flour , if you don’t have it…

    Taco Seasoning

This taco seasoning is so good and so easy and quick to put together . You can even omit the salt for those of you who’s on low sodium diet . This recipe is enough for one jar of spice , that would last me quite a bit , as long as i don’t cook taco , enchiladas , or making carnitas everyday or every week LOL . I’ve used this recipe for regular chicken taco , which is cooked in slow cooker if i feel lazy , just dump the chicken breast , boneless , skinless with diced tomatoes and onion and rub with this spices all over .…

    Lemon Strawberry Greek Yogurt Cake

I was actually trying to bake another lemon yogurt cake when I realized that I don’t have anymore of vanilla Greek yogurt . Not like I needed another loaf but I needed the picture … Yeah like that was enough reason to actually turn the oven , make a mess and more dishes 🤦‍♀️ LOL But anyway I’m glad I did though , my husband and our son think this was much better than the one loaf i baked yesterday . So I’m going to share this super easy , no special equipment needed cake . All you need is just a mixing bowl , a whisk and a spatula…

Do i need to discard starter during feeding each time ?

Lately with the big craze over sourdough starter , i see so many questions about people hate to throw away discard , and they end up baking non stop . I totally understand and can relate to this . Long time ago i also was one of them , thinking oh my goodness i don’t like throwing away food and discard means you don’t need it . I better bake more !!! Why do we need to discard starter during feeding anyway ? Well .. we need to do this otherwise we end up with a ton of starter , from 1 small jar , we might end up with…

    Lemon Garlic Butter Seafood Mix

Tonight’s dinner I wanted something different . We’ve been cooking chicken breast daily , I started to get tired of it . So seafood mix was the one I’m thinking for our protein source . I usually do pasta with it but that too I’m not too hungry for . So I was thinking butter and garlic would be simple yet delicious enough for this . And then instead of serving it with pasta , I chose to serve this with toasted bread . But plain toasted bread would be way too boring . And so why not making bruschetta ? It’s been years since I had them . Maybe…

    Steak Salad

….that’s what we had for dinner , on this quarantine day who knows what day it is already … 🤷 I chose something easy and doesn’t make me feel bloated . Salad dinner is always a good choice . The protein source is sirloin steak , sometimes I choose chicken or shrimps or scallops . Scallops is one of my favorite ! My hubby grilled the steak , we don’t eat steak that often at all . We used to but it’s been years since we cooked it ourselves . I added some dressing on my plate which works really great with this steak . Not much to do with…

    Enchilada Soup

…in slow cooker ! How about that ? Didn’t feel like cooking much or making too much mess , slow cooker sounds good , right ? Less dishes to do and we can just ignore it ! And important thing is , it’s healthy ! Very macro friendly , good amount of protein and nutritious from the beans and tomatoes , the corn , not so much , I like sweet corn , you can always skip if you don’t care . My family really enjoys this soup , esp when the teenager himself had three cups of this soup , you know it’s good .  Ingredients : 5…

    100% Sourdough Milk Sandwich Bread

This one recipe is awesome , credit goes to Barry Apek .I got the recipe from him . This sandwich bread has become our favorite in the house . My husband and son rave about it and that they like this the most . I say …does that mean I’ll have to bake again this week ? Absolutely ! The bread I made two days ago and mind you it’s in a large Pullman loaf so normally it’d last us for a week or at least 5 days . Not this one … They’ve been using it for toasts , for sandwiches for open face sandwich .. it’s so versatile…

Did somebody say Sourdough Babka ?

Babka is one our favorite sweet bread . My husband’s favorite actually ..although we both didn’t grew up eating this kind of sweet bread . But one year I was intrigued with this Babka , Chocolate Babka to be exact , after watching an episode of Seinfeld . My go to Babka recipe is from Peter Reinhart’s Artisan Bread Everyday . I have never tried any other recipe . I made them plenty of times over the years and it’s always been my husband’s favorite sweet treat. Lately with the quarantine , social distancing thing , I find myself to be busy daily in the kitchen . Experimenting some new…

    Campfire style chicken pocket

This was an easy , quick and pretty much with ingredients you have in pantry . Who doesn’t like that ? Not much mess , yummy and quick . Of course I used chicken breast , boneless and skinless , best way to hit protein , the carbs coming from all the veggies which is healthy and nutritious . Overall this dish is pretty healthy , and low fat . The vegetables I used are onion , yellow and orange pepper and then and I threw in some cherry tomatoes . The spices obviously is up to you , you can even use taco seasonings from store . I had…

When you don’t feel like cooking too much of anything and one skillet meal is a good choice . That’s what I did . This turned out to be a very cheap meal . I got turkey on sale , was only $1.39 . Unfortunately I don’t have the exact measurements for spices . Ingredients : 140 g uncooked brown rice , to be cooked separately until almost done 180 grams , about large yellow bell pepper 200 grams onion 3 cloves of garlic 8 oz baby Bella mushroom 14 oz diced tomatoes Garam masala Coriander Cumin Smoked paprika Salt , pepper Chicken bouillon cube Olive oil 1 lb lean…

    Southern Oven Fried Chicken

When you’re hungry for fried chicken yet you can’t get out , and not willing to make a huge mess with deep frying , this is a good option to satisfy that hunger . I don’t do deep frying on a lot of things . First , because it’s a messy business . Second , it uses a lot of oil and to me that’s a lot of oil to be wasted . And third it’s because it’s too fattening . Maybe the third reason should be the first ..lol whatever .. Oven fried chicken I easy and quick to make . I usually use the other recipe using cornflakes…

    Reviving my dormant starter ..

Last year in the spring , I thought , why not trying to dry the starter , just to see .. and incase anything happen to my starter , yeah it’s like insurance type a thing . Just incase . At the time I had no clue how to revive it .. all I cared was just having insurance incase anything happens to the starter . So last spring after feeding Ben&Jerry , I spread some on thin layer on a parchment paper to dry . I think it took a day or something to totally dry , it depends how thin it is . But that’s all I did…

My sourdough bread adventure continues ..

Thought I’d put together some picture instructions on my sourdough bread adventure . In my previous post I mentioned I fed my starter with equal ratio of flour . For example 25 grams of starter fed with 25 grams water and 25 grams of four . To make one boule actually you don’t need that much of starter . And you don’t have to feed the whole batch of starter every time . Just take out what you need , that way you won’t waste so much flour . Unless you’re like me , you like to use discard for other things. Anyway .. I fed my starter about 7…

    Chicken & Vegetables Stir Fry

Growing up I had this dish a lot. My mom would make this often . She was a good cook . And was an amazing mother . She was like my best friend , of course it was only the two of us always after my parents divorced when I was 11 . My mom always offered to teach me how to cook but I always refused that idea . I don’t know how many times I regret it now . Anyway back to stir fry , we also call this Cap Chay . Basically you can use any kind of protein you have , pork , chicken or shrimp…
